D’Arenberg McLaren Vale Shiraz “The Dead Arm” 2017
This wine takes its name from a condition resulting from a fungal infection that afflicted the vines here, leaving one half, or “arm” withered and dead, but thereby concentrating all of the plant’s energy- and flavor- into the remaining half. This is a dense, powerful, and deeply structured Shiraz capable of long cellar aging, but rich, spicy, and sensuous in its youth. Dark blue and black fruits, black olives, and smoky earth-tones are pervaded with firm tannic grip and persistent texture. Decanting is strongly recommended. Wine Advocate 92+ pts SKU: 1356 Australia
